Common Name: Orange Springtail
Order: Collembola
Family: Neanuridae
Size: Approximately 1–2 mm.
Coloration: Bright, uniform orange, easily visible on the substrate.
Distribution: Native to Asia, now bred and distributed for terrarium use.
Ideal Temperature: 20–26 °C. Can tolerate slightly lower ranges, but optimal reproduction occurs in medium-high temperatures.
Humidity: Constant high humidity. Prefer moist substrates without waterlogging.
Captive Habitat: Moist organic substrate such as coconut fiber, peat, or humus. Ventilated containers with good moisture retention. Ideal for tropical terrariums, bioactive setups, and paludariums.
Feeding: Decomposing organic matter, fungi, mold, and plant debris. Can be supplemented with powdered yeast or microfauna food.
Reproduction: Very fast under optimal humidity and temperature. Parthenogenetic species (do not require males), allowing easy colony growth.
Role in Terrariums: Natural cleaning crew, control mold, decompose organic matter, and improve the ecosystem balance.
Compatibility: Suitable for terrariums with small reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and isopods. Safe for animals and plants.
